Today is my birthday I decided last minute to rent an Airbnb in a more rural area that included access to an “tiny house” that is the size of my entertainment room in my current home, and when I say “tiny space”, I don’t know where my clothes would fit, let alone my kitchen pots and pans if this was permanent arrangement. I rented this ‘tiny home” for two reasons, one I wanted to visit this area, and the second I brought the dog and I wanted an area to keep the dog safe, and secure while I was out enjoying this rural area doing human activities.
What I found while I was here enjoying my birthday is that I liked the idea that I was “roughing it”, while I built a fire at this small location. I found that enjoying building a fire and watching it burn in an controlled environment, such as a fire pit is very relaxing to me. I was proud that I was spontaneous and made this plan very last minute, and I was able to enjoy the present and not have many expectations. This will be a birthday to remember, as I age remembering this fast, crazy trip at a “tiny home”.
My traveling companions were not that fond of the nature in this rural setting as we live in a more suburban environment, and there were noises in the dark that couldn’t be explained. I honestly feel that it was good for all of us to get outside of our comfort zone and experience something that we don’t normally get to hear, feel, or see.
I hope I as I age that I can do more things that are not easily explained to rational people, I don’t need death defying experiences, just stranger than a regular hotel room. These small escapes that seem odd to others, even my travel companions are a way for me to feel grounded and experience a part of life that I haven’t been part of such as the “tiny home”, or being part of nature that I haven’t experienced in a really long time.
Thanks for reading about my birthday, and think about something that you would like experience on your next birthday that isn’t easily explained.
