Today I recalled my travels from my home in a comfortable Midwest city to the East Coast to take on a new life in a distant location, where I had only visited but never lived before. What made me move east is the question I always am asked with this story, what makes men migrate anywhere, a lady friend?
I think about my departure from the Midwest and the fear of the unknown with my decision to migrate east. I remember being torn between the comfortable life that held no challenge that I was accustomed to and my new life that held so many obstacles and opportunities. I was over thirty years old leaving the place of my birth for a location that could have been a complete failure in retrospect.
Today after I have described my fears over my migration to the East Coast that totally changed my life for the better. I can safely say that even though I left my comfort zone that my move to the East Coast is one of my biggest accomplishments, because I took the chance. What if I had let my fear get the better of me, and I had listened to the naysayers that were my family and friends and stayed in the Midwest?
I hope that I made this story come alive in my words as it does in my memory that involved an ordinary guy that took his shot at love in an unknown area, and I can report that I am still married to that lady friend and have two wonderful children.
My question is simple about this real-life situation and how it ties to my overall happiness.
Why is this important about a move that people complete everyday?
Without the action of leaving my comfort zone and taking that chance I would have never found my new life and I would have always wondered, what could have been?
I believe in my life that when I took the chance to fail, look foolish, and allow people to have those “I told you so moments”, that is where my real growth has occurred that has developed into the happy moments that I cherish.
Thanks for reading my thoughts and stopping by.
Keith
